Carole's Wilbourn Way
email list was lost in disk crash.
Tell your cat loving friends to
re-subscribe
Unfortunately, Carole's newsletter email
list was lost in a hard drive failure early in October, resulting in our
sending out no October edition. The names and
email addresses of a thousand plus subscribers vanished into hard
drive heaven, never to return.
Carole will appreciate your telling the cat lovers you
know about this and suggesting that they re-subscribe, or just subscribe,
if they were not receiving the Wilbourn Way News before now. If you can
circulate this report to cat lovers in other ways as well, like by
cross-posting to your favorite forums, Carole will
appreciate it.
A new Dada Mail email list manager will
handle Carole's email lists in a highly professional manner going
forward. It uses state of the industry "Double Opt-in" subscription
processing to insure that only those who want the Wilbourn Way News will
be subscribed. New subscribers will receive a confirming email
containing a confirmation link they must click on to finally confirm
their subscription.
Demonstration Against
NY/NJ Port Authority's Feral Cat Policies
Called for November 15th
Carole has been
very upset recently by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's
inhumane and counterproductive plan to euthanize hundreds of feral cats
in and around John F. Kennedy International Airport, a Port Authority
facility. Although the local news media have been very active in
reporting on this story, and polling indicates that most tri-state area
citizens would prefer they pursue Trap-Neuter-and Return programs, the
Port Authority is ignoring citizen and humane organization input. As a
multi-state commission that effectively reports to neither New York nor
New Jersey, the commissioners seem to feel they are immune to public
pressure. Activists from numerous humane and feral cat protection
organizations are intent on changing their minds.
Quoted from
Neighborhood Cats
web site: "A demonstration against the plan of the Port
Authority of NY and NJ to exterminate hundreds of feral cats at JFK
Airport has been called for Thursday, Nov. 15, 11:30 am - 1:30 pm at
Port Authority Headquarters (225 Park Ave. in Manhattan, between 18th
and 19th Sts., just north of Union Square). The Port Authority's Board
of Commissioners will be meeting on that day and are the governing body
which can order an immediate halt to the extermination effort - an
effort that animal welfare experts have uniformly criticized as inhumane
and ineffectual."
You can get more detailed
information past and recent efforts to change the Port Authority's
policies at the Neighborhood Cats site.
Mother's Comfort Project: Sew a Cage
Comforter
Don't Be So-So, Get Sewing on Saturday, November 17th
Quoted from Rational Animal's newsletter:
Did you know that homeless
animals in the city shelters are in desperate need of
comfortable beds? With so many animals coming into the
shelter, it's a challenge to provide so many beds to so many
animals and it's hard to find companies that can afford to
donate the ong oing
quantities needed.
Mother's Comfort Project
is Rational Animal's new initiative to coordinate volunteers and
supply materials to sew cage comforters so that every animal in
the city shelter has some comfort while they await their forever
homes.
Our first gathering is Nov. 17 and our goal is to make 100 in
one day! Rational Animal partners with the Mayor's Alliance for
NYC's Animals Cage Comforter program so that together we can
make as many beds as possible. All materials will be provided
and instructions will be available. Cider, gingerbread and
animal crackers for everyone.
If you can sew, we need you!
If you can't sew, we still need you!
Please stop by this fun "sewing bee" and support the animals.
Here are the details:
- Saturday, Nov. 17, 2-6pm
- Etsy Labs

House™ launches major effort to
improve shelters nationwide - Supporters can help their favorite
shelters win BIG DONATIONS, top prize is a million dollar makeover!
Animal
lovers can earn points for their local animal shelters by being active
members on Zootoo.com,
a new opinion-sharing website for pet lovers. The 20 shelters that earn
the most points will all receive cash prizes, with an advisory board
selecting the most deserving shelter to receive a million-dollar
makeover.
The 20
shelters that accumulate the most points between October 1, 2007
and March 31, 2008, will be eligible to win the makeover or runners-up
cash prizes. Please spread the word about this exciting contest to the
shelters in your local area so they can muster their supporters to
participate on their behalf.
Shelters
will be able to win the makeover by encouraging their supporters to
become active members on Zootoo, the only opinion-sharing web site that
allows all pet lovers to help each other by sharing their knowledge.
When first-time visitors go to Zootoo.com, they will be given the option
of selecting a shelter to support. Then, every time they visit

points for their designated shelter.
The Zootoo House Advisory Board, which consists of Thompson, Bill Meade
from Shelter Planners of America, Wayne Pacelle, president of the Humane
Society of the United States, as well as other experts in the pet
industry, will personally conduct site visits of all 20 shelters to
evaluate their needs and how Zootoo House can best facilitate
enhancements. The shelter deemed most deserving will win a makeover
valued up to one million dollars. A second shelter will win a $10,000
cash prize, and the 18 other top shelters will each receive $5,000.

Westchester Cat Show (TICA)
returns to Westchester
County Center on Saturday 11/17 and Sunday 11/18
Carole Speaks at 1:00 PM Sunday
Carole will be returning to the annual
Westchester Cat Show in November. This wonderful, fun show is
presented each year by the Westchester Feline Club. It is devoted to
non-pedigreed cats. There are various competitions for household pets, a "
Cat of the Year" presentation, guest lecturers, shelter groups, adoptions,
and much more. Carole will be a guest lecturer at 1:00 PM on Sunday. If you live in the New York area, put this show
on your list.
Carole
presented “Caring for your Total Cat – the Wilbourn Way” to standing-
room-only crowd
at the Martin Memorial Library in York, PA on October 27th.
I
did a presentation of my Wilbourn Way cat behavior
techniques at the Martin Memorial Library in York, PA on October 27th.
This
great Saturday afternoon event which was funded by Dr. Donald Sloat of
Community Animal Hospital. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals of York County was also present to answer questions about
companion animals and adoptions.
There
was standing room only and the attendees had many questions. Weaser, a
two-years-old, spayed female was my co-speaker. She either hung out
beside me in her carrier or in a Kittywalk Stroller that was one of the
raffle prizes.
The most
common themes the attendees inquired about were either furniture
destruction marathons, or aggressiveness toward their guardians. These
problems typically indicate cases of “Single Cat Syndrome” and are
caused by a cat's loneliness and boredom when their guardians are away.
Adopting the right companion is usually the solution, so I explained my
method for selecting a highly compatible playmate and my technique for
introducing a new member into the household.
My CD
and books were conveniently available, so I had a great time
autographing them and chatting with the guardians, all of whom were
truly concerned about their cats' well-being. It was a wonderful
afternoon, and I’m very grateful to Allison Meckley, Martin Memorial Library’s
Special Events Coordinator, who arranged my appearance and travel.
