ASPCA announces nation's first Mobile Animal Crime Scene
Investigation Unit and first Anti-Cruelty Institute
NEW YORK, 12/11/07:
Today, on NBC's Today Show, The American Society
for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals introduced its new
Mobile Animal Crime Scene Investigation Unit, the nation's
first, which will bring state of the art forensic investigation and
emergency medical capabilities to the fight against animal cruelty.
In another "first", Ed
Sayers, ASPCA's President & CEO, also announced that ground will be
broken in February 2008 for the nation's first Anti-Cruelty Institute.
Scheduled to open in 2010, the Institute will be dedicated to educating
veterinarians and law enforcement officials with the specialized
training necessary to recognize and respond to animal cruelty.
New York
Care2 member mobilizes over 49 thousand online signatures to protect
animal rights in Puerto Rico
Nadia Donato, a Puerto Rican New
Yorker, was so appalled by the news she learned, though her Care2 Animal
Welfare group, about the massacre of 80 family pets by housing
authorities in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico that she started a petition
calling on the Governor of Puerto Rico for a governmental investigation
and the prosecution of those responsible.
She started with a goal of 1,000
signatures. She began building support within Care2, and then at other
sites, and then was noticed by ABC News and the International Herald
Tribune. As of December 6th, there are over 49,000 signatures.
Congratulations to Nadia. She is another great example showing that we
all can make a positive difference in the world if we care2.

Neighborhood Cats and In Defense of Animals
announce another protest
rally against
NY/NJ Port Authority's Feral Cat Policies
on Tuesday, December 18th
Carole has been
very upset recently about the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's
inhumane and counterproductive plan to euthanize hundreds of feral cats
in and around John F. Kennedy International Airport, a Port Authority
facility. She attended the November 15th protest rally and was glad
to see a strong turnout. But, the Port Authority has not announced any
change in their inhumane policy.
Therefore,
her friends at Neighborhood Cats and In Defense of Animals are calling
for another protest rally on Tuesday, December 18th from Noon to 1:30
p.m., at the headquarters of the Port Authority, located at 225 Park
Avenue South (between East 18th and East 19th Streets, just north of
Union Square) in Manhattan.
You can get the latest information
about the coming protest and past efforts to change the Port Authority's
policies at the Neighborhood Cats
web site.
TheAnimalRescueSite.com's daily
click program needs you!
Every time you visit the
TheAnimalRescueSite.com web site and click on the "click here to
donate" button you help generate advertising revenues that are
distributed to a number of fine animal rescue and rehabilitation
organizations. All profits from their store likewise benefit the
non-profit animal service groups.
Carole has been hearing from friends
recently that The Animal Rescue Site has been having difficulty
maintaining the visitation and "clicks" that fund their great work. She
finds this difficult to understand because they make it so easy. She
signed up for their daily reminder email.
Another way to remember would be to make
their site your browser's home page. That way, when you open your
browser, you would be reminded, "Did I click today?"
Anyway, Carole suggests you help them out. A
click a day doesn't take much effort and it will really help the animal
welfare cause.
ZooToo
House™ launches major effort to
improve shelters nationwide - Supporters can help their favorite
shelters win BIG DONATIONS, top prize is a million dollar makeover!
Animal
lovers can earn points for their local animal shelters by being active
members on Zootoo.com,
a new opinion-sharing website for pet lovers. The 20 shelters that earn
the most points will all receive cash prizes, with an advisory board
selecting the most deserving shelter to receive a million-dollar
makeover.
The 20
shelters that accumulate the most points between October 1, 2007
and March 31, 2008, will be eligible to win the makeover or runners-up
cash prizes. Please spread the word about this exciting contest to the
shelters in your local area so they can muster their supporters to
participate on their behalf.
Shelters
will be able to win the makeover by encouraging their supporters to
become active members on Zootoo, the only opinion-sharing web site that
allows all pet lovers to help each other by sharing their knowledge.
When first-time visitors go to Zootoo.com, they will be given the option
of selecting a shelter to support. Then, every time they visit
Zootoo.com - whether it's to review a product or service, share an
opinion, post a photo, or refer a friend - they will automatically earn
points for their designated shelter.
The Zootoo House Advisory Board, which consists of Thompson, Bill Meade
from Shelter Planners of America, Wayne Pacelle, president of the Humane
Society of the United States, as well as other experts in the pet
industry, will personally conduct site visits of all 20 shelters to
evaluate their needs and how Zootoo House can best facilitate
enhancements. The shelter deemed most deserving will win a makeover
valued up to one million dollars. A second shelter will win a $10,000
cash prize, and the 18 other top shelters will each receive $5,000.
Additional details and a complete list of rules for the shelter makeover
program are available at
http://www.zootoo.com/makeover.
